DETAILS Snowmass, the largest of the four ski areas in west-central Colorado's Aspen/Snowmass complex, is brimming with development these days. Its owner, the Aspen Skiing Company, has been upgrading the mountain with $80 million of projects like a gondola and an express lift that were added over the last two years and a children’s activity center that opened last Thanksgiving in the hotbed of the resort’s buildup — a new billion-dollar base village. This Viceroy condominium-hotel project, with 152 full-ownership studio to four-bedroom units, will be the centerpiece of the new ski-in, ski-out village. Designed by Jean-Michel Gathy, it will feature a swimming pool and a fitness center along with the spa, restaurants and lounges. Another prominent project planned for the village is the Little Nell Residences at Snowmass, a second residential offshoot of the well-known Aspen hotel. The project will consist of 30 full-ownership, one- to four-bedroom and penthouse condos starting at $3.1 million; it is planned to open around the same time as the Viceroy. The units, with multiple fireplaces, are designed by David Easton. Amenities will include a private owners’ lounge, a fine-dining restaurant, a heated pool and a fitness center. Both this project and the Viceroy will offer ski valet services. So far, about half the Viceroy condos and 65 percent of the Little Nell units have been sold. The entire village, which will also include about 300 additional condominiums, some of which already complete, and numerous shops and restaurants, is designed to be environmentally sustainable and energy efficient. The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport is only about six miles away.
